Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt: As the first semester comes to an end, I’ve had the chance to reflect on how much I’ve learned and grown in this course. How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

Prompt: As a kid, the holidays felt more carefree, mostly focused on gifts, traditions, and time off from school. I didn’t think about the work behind them and just enjoyed the fun. Now, the holidays feel more meaningful but less magical. I notice the responsibilities and effort involved, and I value time with family as well. Summary: we did vocab. Reflection: I learned new vocab words

Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Prompt: One thing I’ve outgrown but still miss is the simplicity of being a kid. Back then, I didn’t stress about grades, the future, or responsibilities. I just lived in the moment. Even though I’ve had to move on and grow up, I still miss how easy everything felt and how little I had to worry about. Summary: today we took a vocab test today reflection: I learned new vocab words

Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

prompt: I cannot stop thinking about if Aaron Philo the Georgia Tech QB is going to transfer out. Our offensive coordinator left GT to go coach at Florida so I do not want Philo to follow him.

Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt: The best gift I ever got was a pair of shoes. I had wanted them for a long time, and getting them made me feel happy and appreciated. Every time I wear them, I think of the person who gave them to me. Summary: We worked on vocab today, but my hand is broken so I stayed home. Reflection: I learned new vocab words.

After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt: In Identity, the masks show how people hide their true selves to fit in. The moment that stood out to me was when the main character rips off her mask, showing how powerful it is to finally be yourself. This connects to “I, Too,” because both show the importance of being seen for who you really are. For my own mask, I want it to reveal the confident part of me that I usually keep hidden. Summary: We watched a video and read a Langston Hughes poem. Reflection: I was able to turn in my identity mask.

In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

Prompt: One aspect of my cultural identity that I’m most proud of is the sense of community I grew up with. It reminds me to stay connected, support others, and appreciate the traditions that helped shape who I am today. Summary: We read and annotated the poem "I Too" Reflection: I improved my ability to annotate poems.

In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt: One time I went along with friends doing something just because it seemed fun, even though I knew better. Later, when it caused trouble, I realized trying to look cool wasn’t worth the consequences. Summary: We read and annotated "We Real Cool" a poem Reflection: I improved my ability to annotate poems

Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

Prompt: One time for by birthday my parents surprised me with a very nice dinner and at a Brazilian steakhouse. The experience was so much different than any I have ever experienced. It was so odd seeing the servers walk around with these big sticks of meat and they would just cut it right off the stake onto your plate. That is my most unforgettable meal. Summary: Today in class we did exercises 1-4 for lesson 4 Reflection: I learned many new vocab words.
