Dickinson uses the metaphor of a funeral to describe her inner struggles. What metaphor would you use to describe your own mind?

Prompt: Emily Dickinson used the metaphor of a funeral to describe her inner struggles, a metaphor I would use to describe my own mind is "My mind is like an ocean, sometimes it calm and clear and other times it is other times with waves of thoughts crashing through my ears. I think this metaphor describes my mind because sometimes I am thinking clearly and others I am very cluttered. Summary: In class today we read Emily Dickinson poems and annotated them, then we drew what we think one of the poems is like. Reflection: I learned more definitions of words when annotating.

Write about an adventure you would like to go on.

Prompt: An adventure I would like to go on is to travel to Italy. In Italy I would like to go all over the place, like Florence, Venice, The Alps, and Sicily. I would like to go to Florence for all of the amazing art and the views of the city. Venice would be awesome to visit as well because I think that the water tunnels are so amazing and would be an awesome experience. Finally, The Alps and Sicily I would want to visit because in the Alps I would be able to go skiing and I've never done that, then in Sicily I would want to see the active volcano. Summary: Today we talked about poems and Emily Dickinson. Reflection: I learned who Emily Dickinson is and what she did.

Describe something you will never fully understand

Prompt: Something I will never fully understand is the concept of how death feels. I would want to know what if feels like just dying of old age. I don't know if it would hurt like how I imagine being shot or stabbed is; or it may just be like letting go of something you've been holding onto a long time. This is something I will never fully understand because you cannot ask someone about this, because they are dead. Summary: Today in class we presented our projects. Reflection: I learned to not talk while presenting.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt: Something I wish I had more of was time. If I had time then I would be able to do so many other things. I would have more time to practice sports or guitar or anything. If we had more time I would be able to always have good grades. Then also any trip I went on somewhere cool I would be able to stay there so much longer. Reflection: I learned how to upload a picture into blogger. Summary: Today I only had to do my blog post because I have already finished my poster any my myth.

Prompt: What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Prompt: The most creative thing I have ever done is one of the many artworks I've done. I like to draw many different things, such as flowers, some music artist, or little characters I have created. I enjoy using colours to give more detail to my drawings but I do not ever really have the right colour of colour pencil. In summary, I do not have one thing that I've done that I think is the most creative but there are lots of little things. Summary: Today in class we were introduced to a new project due on Adobe Express about the origin myth we wrote yesterday. Reflection: I learned how to navigate through Adobe Express because I have never used that website before.

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Prompt: Two of my biggest questions in life are how were people really created, and why is it human nature to be violent/ start wars. These questions matter to me because I feel like knowing how/ why the human population was created would raise so many more questions about religion and evolution. Why people fight so much and do such horrible things to each other such as killings, racism, and wars all over is an important question to me because I do not understand why people have to treat others less than themselves. If people could just be nice and not so selfish then the world would be such a better place. This would help solve so many other problems quicker such as cancer or global warming because no one country would have to worry about another bombing them. Summary: In class today we worked on creating our own origin myth. Reflection: I learned more about my writing style, it was fun to be creative and make my own myth about how the world came to be.

Decribe a time you felt completely lost

Prompt: A time I felt completely lost was my freshman year of highschool. I was so lost in the halls and did not know where any of my classes were. I had so many new teachers and was unsure if I had classes with any of my friends. There were so many other people making the commute from class to class a challenge. I was unsure of how hard all of my classes were going to be and what if all of these new classes were so much more difficult that I had ever imagined and I wasn't prepared. This is a time that I felt completely lost.  Summary: Today in class we present our slideshow presentations on "The Jealous Father" story. Reflection: I learned the definition of a theme and how to write one better than the previous theme that I had wrote.

Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Prompt: At the start of the class I did not really follow along with the reading and then during the class discussions I would feel lost. But once I started to pay attention to the readings I got a better hold on the discussions. A strength I plan to do is be able to make better connections between the work. A challenge is being able to explain parts of the reading.  Summary: In class today we took an origin myths quiz and I got a 90+. Reflection: Toward the end of the class we talked about the question on the quiz. This helped me because I was able to see what I did wrong and understand what I did right.

Describe a real-life situation in which jealousy negatively affected a relationship you experienced.

Prompt: When I was younger, my brother was playing video games with his friends, and I really wanted to join in. However, he didn’t want me to play, this made me feel jealous and left out. Because of that, I decided to stop talking to him for the rest of the day. Summary: Today in class we read The Jealous Father a story passed down by Native Americans, and we started a group project based on that reading. Reflection: Reading this story gave me a bigger insight into what Native American stories were like because this story was longer than any others we've read. Also, learning more about the cultural background of the story was very interesting.

Write about a meaningful object or place in your life that carries a story.

Prompt Response: A meaningful place is my family house up in Blue Ridge because I have a lot of memories with my friends up there. Summary: Today in class we read a Navajo creation myth then took our school photo. Reflection: I learned about the structure and learned more of the meaning about a Navajo creation myth. Reading a real story really helped me understand the idea of the different types of myths more. That is what we did in class before taking our school photo. For the school photo I wanted to do something fun and funny. So I drew a big curly moustache on my face with face paint and then the administrator got upset but it didn't matter because I had already took my photo.

Write about a time you felt connected to nature, like the kinship in Native American myths.

Prompt response : A time I felt connected to nature is whenever I go camping. Summary: Today in class we looked at our vocab words and Native American culture and what type of stories they told. Reflection: I learned many different new words, such as the definition of a myth. I also learned what Native American stories were mainly about, it seems like they told a lot of stories that were based on true things that happened but then they evolved into something more fictional. This impacted me by helping me learn now things about the Native American culture and giving me new information to study for the vocab test we have due in two weeks. I will use this knowledge to help better my vocabulary and knowledge about Native American and their way of life.
