Write about something that you believed as a child.

 Prompt: When I was little, I believed that my stuffed animals could talk to each other when I wasn’t in the room. I was sure they had secret meetings at night, sharing stories about their day and planning little adventures. Sometimes I’d leave notes for them, hoping they’d read them in the morning. It made my room feel alive, like I had tiny friends who were always watching out for me. Summary: today in class we went over our vocab words by doing an assignment. Reflection: I learned what many words meant such as blanch.

Write about a fear you have overcome.

 Prompt: A fear I have overcome is riding a bike without training wheels. When I was a little kid I was terrified to ride a bike, and especially scared to balance on it. At first, I was terrified of falling and getting hurt. With practice and encouragement, I learned to balance and ride on my own. Now, I feel proud and confident whenever I hop on a bike. Summary: We worked on a analysing claims. Reflection: I learned the differences between the 3 types of claims.

Prompt: As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

 Prompt: As I grow older, I think I’ll often have to debate the importance of personal responsibility. I upsets me when people don't take responsibility for their actions. People sometimes blame others or make excuses instead of owning their actions. I want to be able to explain why taking responsibility matters for growth and trust, whether it’s with friends, family, or society. Summary: Today in class we went over more essay notes. Reflection: I learned how to detect different thesis statements.

Prompt: Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

 Prompt: A truth I was afraid to accept was that failure is a part of learning. I always wanted to get everything right the first time, and when I made mistakes, I felt embarrassed. Over time, I realized that failing doesn’t mean I’m not capable of it just means I’m growing and learning. Accepting that truth helped me see mistakes as opportunities instead of setbacks. Summary: Today we took notes on how to write an essay. Reflection: I learned how to write different thesis statements.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

 Prompt: I remember being judged unfairly at a sports game. I had a chance to move up and play a lot better but when I went into the game I got stressed out and started messing up. I missed shots that I normally make and have practiced over and over again. This was unfair to myself because when I had the chance to step up and impress people I blew it. Summary: Today in class we did a commonlit. Reflection: I got better at analyzing articles and answering questions based on them.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

 Prompt: If I were learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage, I’d be curious about the traditions families share, the foods that bring people together, the origins of music styles like salsa or mariachi, and the meaning behind celebrations such as Day of the Dead or Carnaval. Summary: Today in class we took notes on how to write different thesis statements. Reflection: I learned how to write a umbrella thesis statement.

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

 Prompt: One of my classmates poems and presentations that I enjoyed was Grady's. I enjoyed his poem because I thought it was well put together because, it was funny and made me laugh. His presentation was also well made. I think his presentation was well made because the photos were  Summary: Today in class we went over different poem posters and rated different parts of the poem to receive a homework pass. Reflection: I learned about my classmates poetry style.

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

 Prompt: I felt like an interloper when I went to my neighbor’s family, friends music show. Most of the people there were relatives who all knew each other and like a bunch of my parents friends. I didn't really know anybody but all of those people knew me. I was able to reconnect with those people and hear stories about me before I could remember. Summary: I was absent today. Reflection: I learned about the story The Interloper.

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Prompt: Out of the 15 words we learned the 3 I would use the most is aesthetic, ambiguous, and adventitious. I would use aesthetic because it is a fun word to say and I cannot think of any other words that describe beauty of something as aesthetic. I would use ambiguous because it is helpful when talking about something that means more thing than one its the perfect word. Finally, adventitious will be used because it describes something from an external source well. Summary: Today in class we looked at poetry. Reflection: I learned how to analyse a poem better

What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

 Prompt: I like the Lakeside community because everyone supports each other and I have fun at the football games. I show my spirit by participating in the spirit weeks. and my favorite tradition is homecoming game because I always have so much fun. Summary: Today I am pretty sure we took a test on poems, I was absent due to being in the pep rally Reflection: I learned more about poetry.

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

 Prompt: The learning methods I enjoy the most are examples then worksheets. This helps me take in the information at my own pace. When I am able to understand the work through discussion then work through the problems or annotate the material it helps me understand the work fully and be able to do the work on my own. This prepares me for the test much better because I'm able to do it on my own. Summary: Today in class we worked on our poems and started a poster showing aspects of our poems. Reflection: I learned how to make an animated character in Adobe Express.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

 Prompt: The aspects of creating a poem I enjoy the most is finding the right words to use for the situation I'm describing in my story. I like this part because its fun in a way to find the right words to say because it paints a good image in the readers head. The only hard part is finding the right thing to write about for my poem, but once I get a good idea in my head I am typically able to write a pretty good poem. Summary: Today in class we started to write our own poems. Reflection: I learned how hard it is to come up with things to write about.

Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

 Prompt: A specific event that felt ridiculous and bold was one time when I was riding down a hill on my bike going very fast and then a sharp turn came up. Once I saw the sharp turn I tried my best to break and turn so that I would not crash. I braked too hard and my back tire spun out from under me, this sent me and my bike drifting into someones front yard where I crashed.  Summary: In class today we went over a poem, studied it, and annotated it. Reflection: I learned how to annotate poems better and who that poet was.

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

 Prompt: If I had to pick a song to describe my life right now, I would choose Ain't life Grand" by Widespread Panic. Because the song reflects how even the small, simple moments can feel meaningful. It fits my life because I’m balancing challenges such as school, sports, and work with good times. The lyrics remind me to step back and see that not everything is perfect but we need to appreciate life for what it is. Summary: Today in class we took a test on analyzing Emily Dickinson poems.  Reflection: I did a lot better than I thought I would not the test, very happy with my score.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

 Prompt: If I was to make a poem about my life it would focus on how I overcome different challenges. These challenges could be school, personal growth, or just different responsibilities I have. I think this would fall under perseverance as a topic and the overall message would be about how no matter how many obstacles you face you have to find a way to get through it all. This is what I may write about if I was required to compose a poem of my own. Summary: I was absent today but it seems we analyse Emily Dickinson poems and tried to find a deeper meaning for them. Reflection: I learned how to analyse poems better.

You’ve been in American Literature for 4.5 weeks now. How has the class been going for you so far?

 Prompt: Since we started school 4.5 weeks ago, I feel American Lit has been pretty easy for me so far. I enjoy having my class with some of my good friends but we are still able to get all of our work done and learn. I feel like I am adjusting to this class well and will have an easy time throughout the school year.  Summary: Today we analysed the poem "Because I could not stop for Death" by Emily Dickinson Reflection: I learned that we have an assessment on Friday.

Describe one thing that makes you different from other people.

 Prompt: One thing that makes me feel different is hanging out with family and friends. I also enjoy playing sports or other hobby's I have. But, it's always the best to get to hang out with some of the people who I know care about me. I find happiness in being with the people who love me and building more and more memories over time with these people is something that makes me feel different. Summary: I was absent but we did an identifying theme worksheet. Reflection: I learned how to identify better than I was before.
